What the ascendant fixes in a chart
The Lagna, or rising sign, is the zodiac sign on the eastern horizon at the moment and place of birth. It becomes the 1st house, and every other house is counted from it — so the Lagna decides which sign rules your career, marriage, wealth and each other area. Because the whole horizon completes a circuit each day, a new sign rises roughly every two hours, and the degree of the Lagna shifts about one degree every four minutes. This is the most time-sensitive point in the entire chart.
